Did you know heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in most countries of the world?

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates 17 million people die each year of cardiovascular disease – particularly heart attacks and strokes.

Although it’s variable from country to country, according to income level, the world average is that approximately one in four of us will die from some form of cardiovascular disease such as heart attack or stroke.

With statistics like this, many people are looking for safe and natural alternatives to prescription medicine to help manage symptoms and improve the health of their hearts.

Two very important and beneficial nutritional supplements which have been shown to be effective in this regard are Pycnogenol and Co-enzyme Q10.

Indeed, Dr Ronald Watson, of the University of Arizona, published a review in Evidence-Based Integrated Medicine, saying that Pycnogenol acts as a natural “polypill” for heart health due to its abundance of cardio health properties.

Cholesterol Reduction

Other clinical research shows this antioxidant to be powerful in reducing inflammation in the body, strengthening the vascular system, lowering high blood pressure and cholesterol, fighting the effects of smoking, stress and other environmental risk factors on the heart.

Four clinical trials have found Pycnogenol lowers LDL cholesterol and increases HDL (good) cholesterol.

Blood Pressure Control

Dr Robert Kowalski, in his new book Take the Pressure Off Your Heart, refers to Pycnogenol as a “secret weapon” to lower blood pressure naturally in eight weeks.  He cites a variety of studies in his book which show that Pycnogenol lowers blood pressure and reduces blood stickiness and blood clots.

Heart Failure

Another study showed that when combined with Co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10),  Pycnogenol strengthens the heart and increases the blood volume ejected with each beat. This means that oxygen-rich blood supply to the organs improves, which gives patients more physical energy.

This study, published in Panminerva Medica, was conducted by Dr. Gianni Belcaro. He says: “Many conditions that lead to heart failure cannot be reversed, but heart failure can often be medically managed with good results. This study shows that a combination of Pycnogenol and CoQ10 offers an effective, natural solution as adjunct for heart health management.”
